Athletic Training Program

Athletic Trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled healthcare professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnoses, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. ATs help provide initial assessments and recommend further evaluation by a medical provider when needed.

Types of Services

The HRRMC Athletic Training program provides services to nine area high schools.

HRRMC's ATs work with the high schools in Salida, Buena Vista, South Park, Cotopaxi, Westcliffe, Saguache, Moffat, Mosca and Del Norte.

At the schools covered, ATs work with student athletes at school-day clinics as well as at sporting events, providing injury assessments and continued care of new and chronic injuries. ATs work together with student athletes, coaches, athletic directors (ADs) and parents/caregivers, offering injury assessment and care, referrals to medical providers when needed, splinting and bracing, develop emergency action plans, as well as conduct baseline ImPACT (concussion) testing for all high-school contact sports. ATs provide coverage at home sporting events and practices when available, monitoring for injuries as well as providing immediate emergency medicine if needed (splinting, AED, etc.).

Free bi-weekly orthopedic evaluation clinic at the Saguache Health Center for any community member.

All of the ATs employed at HRRMC are certified by the BOC (Board of Certification), the national credentialing association for athletic trainers.
