Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is an officially accredited Critical Access Hospital by The Joint Commission.

The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. We are committed to providing exceptional health care and this accreditation furthers our mission and vision.

The Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals we are following include:

  • Identifying patients correctly
  • Improving communication among caregivers
  • Using medications safely
  • Using clinical alarms safely
  • Preventing infections
  • Universal protocol for using "time-outs" prior to invasive procedures

Nationally recognized Top 100 Critical Access Hospital

top 100Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center was named a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital in the U.S. in 2019, according to The National Rural Health Association's Rural Health Policy Institute, iVantage Health Analytics and The Chartis Center for Rural Health.

The hospitals that are named to this list are top performers in managing risk, achieving higher quality, securing better outcomes, increasing patient satisfaction and operating at a lower cost than their peers. HRRMC was one of three Critical Access Hospitals in Colorado named to the list.

Five-star rating on Hospital Compare

Medicare's Hospital Compare website has information about the quality of care at over 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals, including over 130 Veterans Administration (VA) medical centers, across the country. You can use Hospital Compare to find hospitals and compare the quality of their care.

HRRMC received the highest, five-star rating for inpatient care on Hospital Compare in 2019. Hospitals are ranked on a variety of measures and then given an overall hospital ranking of one to five stars, with one being the lowest and five the highest.

Quality initiatives

Judicious use of antibiotics

HRRMC is one of 26 hospitals in Colorado participating in the CHA Antibiotic Stewardship Collaborative. This two-year effort is focused on increasing the appropriate treatment for urinary tract infections (UTIs) and skin and soft-tissue infections (SSTIs) by correctly prescribing antibiotics.

The Collaborative is part of a growing movement to address the issue of antibiotic and antimicrobial stewardship, including efforts by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the White House.

Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN)

HRRMC participates in HIIN, a national initiative to prevent patient harm and improve care in hospitals across the U.S. By the end of 2019, the overall goal of HIIN is to reduce all-cause inpatient harm by 20% and readmissions by 12%.

Preventing falls

In 2016, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recognized HRRMC for its efforts to bring evidence-based adult fall-prevention programming to Colorado and designated HRRMC's program a Violence and Injury Prevention (VIP) Program of Excellence.
