SALIDA, Colo.— A collection of acrylic paintings from Salida artist Leslie Jorgensen are on display at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) now through June 30.

Jorgensen quickly fell in the love with the mountains after moving to Denver, and took full advantage of the natural beauty and outdoor activities in the state, including skiing many of the resorts Colorado has to offer.

After an introductory avalanche safety course, Jorgensen ventured into the backcountry to “explore new mountain adventures on the road less traveled.” Thus began her process of infusing her new passion of backcountry skiing into her abstract art in addition to other outdoor activities, such as hiking and biking.

“I merged my abstract techniques with a lively, gestural painting of my experiences in the mountains,” Jorgensen said. “I wanted to take the kind of risks with my subject matter that I do on the slopes.”

Jorgensen’s acrylic paintings on display feature “Adventure-scapes” – a blend of vibrant landscapes and adventure activities inspired by “the forces of nature and the wonder of places infinitely greater than myself,” said Jorgensen.

HRRMC displays the work of regional artists each quarter, with an emphasis on the Arkansas Valley. Call 719-530-2217 for more information on exhibiting art at HRRMC.
