About J. Ross

Dr. Tanner graduated medical school from the University of North Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. In 2005, at the inaugural board examination, he was the first physician to pass the rigorous American Board of Lipidology exam to become the first Lipidologist in Alaska.

He completed his internal medicine residency at Texas A&M College of Medicine in 1994 as a chief resident. He practiced in Washington State for 5 years and was appointed by Governor Gary Locke to serve a five-year term on the Washington State Board of Medicine. During his time in Washington, he helped establish and served as the medical director of the first free clinic in Thurston County for indigent and uninsured patients.

Dr. Tanner moved to Alaska and served as the Regional Medical Director of Health Management Services at Providence Alaska Medical Center, and spent time in the beautiful state before deciding to move to Colorado to join HRRMC.

He is passionate about the management of diseases associated with lipidology, diabetes and general health and wellness. His inspiration for a better understanding of the disease began early in his life, with his own father having Type 1 Diabetes.
