Foundation Scholarships

Our community cares about the future of healthcare. There are multiple opportunities for high school students looking to begin college with a scholarship supporting a healthcare career or college students working to continue their efforts in healthcare education. We also have scholarships for Emergency Medical Technicians and Certified Nurse Assistants to advance their career as a Registered Nurse or Bachelors of Science in Registered Nursing.

2024 High School Graduates

Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship —Application | Guidelines

A one-time amount of $1,250 will be awarded to a graduating public high school senior residing in Chaffee County or western Fremont County who plans to attend college in fall 2024 with a major in the healthcare field. (Application deadline: March 22, 2024)

HRRMC Auxiliary Scholarship —Application & Guidelines

An annual amount of $1,500 will be awarded for four recurring years (subject to renewal process each year). Applicant must be a graduating high school senior from Buena Vista, Cotopaxi, or Salida High School, living within the HRRMC hospital district and entering college in fall 2024 in a health field career. A GPA equivalent of "B" or better is required. (Application deadline: March 22, 2024)

Current College Students

Charles J. Forster Scholarship — Application | Guidelines

Two scholarships of $2,500 each will be awarded to individuals who live or have lived within the Salida Hospital District (Chaffee, western Fremont and northern Saguache counties), or within the Westcliffe or Saguache school districts. Applicants will attend college in fall 2024 with a degree in a healthcare field and have a 3.2 college GPA and 24 credit hours.

Annie Little Memorial Scholarship — Application | Guidelines

A scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded each year to a Buena Vista, CO high school graduate who has attended one or more years in an accredited post high school institution. This graduate must be currently enrolled in a course/courses leading to a degree or diploma in the healthcare field.
Previous applicants meeting eligibility requirements may apply each year.

Career Advancement

EMT/Paramedic, CNA or CMA to RN/RN-BSN Scholarship —Application |Guidelines

This scholarship has been opened to CMAs who are already in nursing school and have completed at least one semester. Applicants may use the same guidelines and application as the EMT/Paramedic or CNA to RN/RN-BSN Scholarship.

Individuals who are currently certified EMTs/paramedics or Certified Nurse Assistants (with either a certification or letter of completion in 2023/2024) OR CMAs who are already in nursing school and have completed at least one semester, are living in the HRRMC Hospital District service area, and who will be attending college in fall 2024 to pursue an Associate's Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. The scholarship amounts awarded will be determined by the Scholarship Committee based on the number of qualified applicants and individual financial need.
