2023 projects

  • Facilitate funding the Mary Ann Banach Wound Care Center at HRRMC. This new service, to be located near the main entrance of HRRMC, will provide a hyperbaric chamber with pressurized oxygen to increase the healing of wounds for patients who are immune compromised, have diabetes or nerve damage.
  • Fund a planned Hospitality House on the HRRMC Campus that will provide charitable overnight accommodations for HRRMC patients, their families and caregivers who live 30 or more miles from Salida. These accommodations will also support families of hospice patients in the area. We anticipate breaking ground on these four units in 2023.
  • Manage the Picie Hylton Charitable Fund, the operational fund for the Hospitality House and ensure that the individuals who stay, can stay for free.
  • Coordinate up to ten health care scholarships for individuals from the area.
  • Host the annual HRRMC Cancer Walk in the spring of 2023, dates TBD.

2021 projects

ICU ventilation system upgrade: In December of 2021, with support from a grant awarded by the Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) , HRRMC completed an upgrade to its ICU by creating patient rooms that function with a ventilation system known as negative pressure. Negative pressure rooms support infection control and isolation for patients who have highly contagious airborne illnesses including COVID, tuberculosis, SARS and MERS. This system, beneficial to both patients and staff, has become the standard of care in hospitals nationwide.

Women’s Wellness Care: Since 2015, we have been providing regular cancer screenings and early detection for qualified uninsured and underinsured women to receive cervical cancer and mammography screenings. This program is in partnership with the Colorado Women’s Wellness Care grant. We serve women in Chaffee, western Fremont, Saguache, Custer, western Park, and Lake Counties.

HRRMC clinics in Salida, Buena Vista, Saguache, and Westcliffe provide easy access for healthcare.

We also work directly with Heart of the Rockies Home Health and Hospice.
