What is a chronic disease?

The U.S. National Center for Health Statistics qualifies a disease as chronic when it has lasted for more than 3 months. Some of these diseases may be permanent, while others can be remedied with proper care. In either case, a proper health plan can minimize their effects and possibly allow patients to live normal lives.

The following can be qualified as chronic diseases:

  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Arthritis
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Aftereffects of stroke
  • Epilepsy
