What is chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy, or "chemo," is the use of strong drugs to treat cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, chemotherapy was first used to treat cancer in the 1950s and more than 100 chemo drugs are now in use. Your doctor will determine which chemo drugs to give you based on the type of cancer and how far it has spread in your body (the stage).

Thankfully, chemo has come a long way since its initial introduction into the medical field. The side effects are much more manageable now, and patients can enjoy a better quality of life while under treatment. The medical professionals at HRRMC take every measure possible to mitigate side effects in our patients.
