A Pap test can reduce your risk of cervical cancer

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Foundation and the Women’s Wellness Connection (WWC) encourage women ages 21-74 to talk with their health care provider about scheduling a Pap test.

Every year, about 12,000 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with cervical cancer. A Pap test is the first line of defense against cervical cancer and when found early, more than 93 percent of women will survive, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE).

“Cervical cancer usually doesn’t have any signs or symptoms, so a routine Pap test could be a lifesaver,” said WWC Community Healthcare Worker Brenda Gentile.

Women’s Wellness Connection offers free cervical cancer screenings and follow-up testing to eligible women who have little or no health insurance and meet income requirements. If you’d like to learn more or see if you qualify, call Brenda Gentile at (719) 207-2088.
