Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy helps patients adapt, relearn, or improve daily functions that have been disrupted due to injury, accident, birth defects, arthritis, aging, and emotional or developmental problems. Occupational Therapy promotes independence in basic self-care, recovery of lost work skills, increased confidence in physical abilities, and cognitive/mental rehabilitation such as problem solving or short-term memory building. Rehabilitation may include:

Physical Rehabilitation
We evaluate and treat physical inabilities that prevent independence of activities such as feeding, grooming, and dressing. Devices and techniques may be used to help an individual adapt and enable them to perform daily functions. Physical rehabilitation includes improving strength, range of motion, and endurance.

A home visit and evaluation can determine what changes need to be made to increase independence at home. Recommendations may be as simple as how to move furniture for easier mobility or the suggestion of where to install grab bars that allow an individual to stand more easily. Plus, we can provide rehabilitative services in your home.

Improved Visual Coordination
Some physical dysfunction may be due to visual problems that decrease the ability to determine space/distance. Our therapist can help improve eye-motor coordination and perceptual skills.

Cognitive Rehabilitation
Occupational Therapy is for more than just physical problems. Our therapist can help with developmentally delayed individuals who may have learning difficulties or those with head injuries who have impaired thinking processes. Individuals may require assistance in gaining confidence to help them enter a job situation. Rehabilitation may also include improving concentration, attention span, problem solving, or short term memory.
