Family Birthing Center

Our Family Birthing Center provides a caring, safe, comfortable environment for each new family experience. Approximately 150 babies are born here every year. Our team of caring and skilled nurses and physicians are available 24 hours a day to offer you constant support and medical expertise. See our Mission, Vision, and Values of the Family Birthing Center.

The physicians and nursing staff at HRRMC are well trained in labor and delivery and provide attentive care to our patients. The department includes three homey birthing rooms with beautiful views of the Collegiate Peaks. Birthing beds offer the ability to labor, deliver and recover all in the same room. Spacious private bathrooms provide walk-in Jacuzzi tubs to help with relaxation during labor. Sleeper sofas and recliners offer birth partners/coaches a comfortable place to rest. Please see our list of What to Bring to the Hospital to improve your stay with us.

While the majority of babies "room in", if your baby has any difficulties, our well-equipped nursery with up-to-date technology such as neonatal monitors allow us to carefully monitor newborns. Anesthesiology services are available for epidurals and pain management. Our physicians are highly capable in performing cesarean sections when needed.

Our physicians and nurses are happy to share their wealth of knowledge to make new parents and family members as comfortable as possible. While our most important goal is a safe, healthy mother and baby, we understand that each person has his/her own plan as to how they get there. There are a variety of labor "methods" available. You are free to choose your own. We offer childbirth classes for the expectant mother and coach throughout the year. See the Events Calendar for dates of classes and for a brief description of what is discussed each evening. You can register online for a class. To read about what normally occurs during labor and delivery at our Birthing Center and the opportunity to individualize a Birth Plan for you and your partner.

After the delivery our nurses will spend time at the bedside helping you and your baby with breast feeding or bottle feeding as well as teaching how to care for yourself and your newborn. See a copy of our Maternity Teaching Sheet.

What a Beautiful Baby!
If parents wish, their baby’s photo can be posted on the hospital’s website so anxious friends and relatives can see their new bundle of joy. Pictures are accessible on our Baby Nursery webpage only via a password chosen and distributed by the parents.

Good luck on the beginning of a beautiful journey!

“As a nurse midwife, I have been called to honor whatever path a woman chooses to experience the passage of birth, even if it is not the way I would choose. I aid. I educate. I comfort. I guard. I wait. I hold sacred space for wherever women need to go in their birth journey.”
