Hospital lab receives CAP accreditation

June 28, 2012

Salida, Colorado-Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center's main laboratory has been awarded accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent on-site inspection.

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government's own inspection program.

HRRMC Lab Director Amy Mueller, M.D., was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services provided. "CAP accreditation represents a rigid adherence to the highest standards in laboratory operation," said Greg Messmer, vice president of ancillary services. "I am proud of our laboratory and I commend all of our hard-working professionals in their quest to maintain this superior level of quality."

During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the lab's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also review lab-staff qualifications, lab equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and the overall management of the lab. The inspection program is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all lab patients.
