HRRMC hosts free car seat safety check

April 5, 2012

Salida, Colorado - Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center has partnered with Children's Hospital Colorado to offer community members free child car seat fittings on Saturday, April 14.

The car seat check will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Touber Building in the west side parking lot.

The checks will be conducted by Chaffee County Public Health, Chaffee County Fire, Trinidad Ambulance District, State Patrol, and HRRMC Trauma Coordinator Jodi Townsend.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one of the best protective measures that you can take is using seat belts, child safety seats, and booster seats that are appropriate for your child's age and weight.

Babies should be placed in rear facing car seats until they are at least one year old and weigh 20 pounds. When babies move into front-facing car seats, they should remain in these seats until they are at least four years old or weigh 40 pounds.

For more information, contact Townsend at 719-530-2243 or visit www.cdc.gov or www.safekids.org.
