Hospital exhibit features fiber artist Carol Ann Waugh

October 8, 2012

Salida, Colorado - "Stupendous Stitching," an exhibit of mixed-media fiber art by Carol Ann Waugh, is on display at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center through December 31.

Waugh is an award-winning artist based in Denver. Her current work mixes geometric and organic textures and incorporates several layers of surface design, which may include screen printing, painting, stamping, drawing, and machine and hand stitching.

"I enjoy not having complete control over the outcome of my work," said Waugh. "And as I layer, create each line, shape or pattern, add or take away color, and stitch, the decisions made after each step change the options for the next decision. It's why making art is so intriguing to me and something I am driven to do every day."

Waugh's art has been juried and invited into more than 50 national and international exhibitions during the past four years. She is the author of five books on quilt-making and fiber art. Her latest book, "Stupendous Stitching," was published in April 2012. She also teaches her "Stupendous Stitching" course online at Craftsy.com, where more than 10,000 students from over 200 countries are learning her techniques.

Her work may be viewed at www.carolannwaugh.com.
All artwork in the hospital exhibit is for sale, and 25 percent of the proceeds are donated to the HRRMC Foundation.

HRRMC is hosting four art exhibits this year in the main hallway of the hospital's first floor, as part of its mission to create a healing environment. The hospital displays the work of regional artists, with an emphasis on the Arkansas Valley. For more information on exhibiting art at HRRMC, call 719-530-2217.
