Sue Kaess honored as Auxilian of the Year

Salida, Colorado - Sue Kaess of Salida was named HRRMC Auxilian of the Year at an awards luncheon at the Country Bounty Restaurant on May 15. Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center hosted the luncheon to recognize the contributions of its Auxiliary volunteers.

The Auxilians contributed 8,116 hours of service in 2011, including 200 hours donated by student volunteers. Since 1965, the Auxilians have volunteered 489,441 hours.

The Auxiliary members who donated the most hours in 2011 were Margie Smith of Buena Vista, 1,945; Emery Smith of Buena Vista, 581; Charlie De Hart of Nathrop, 542; Sherry Carricato of Salida, 385; and Tina Giles of Nathrop, 372. Margie Smith has accumulated the most hours of service, 23,861, through 2011.

The HRRMC Auxiliary runs the hospital gift shop and other fundraisers. Auxilians also volunteer in many hospital departments and the outlying clinics. In 2011, they donated $4,090.36, including $1,045 to the HRRMC Foundation and $2,625 for scholarships in the healthcare field.
