Salida, Colorado - The 9Health Fair is coming to Salida on Saturday, April 14, from 6:30 a.m. until noon at Salida High School, 905 D Street, Salida. Anyone 18 and older can participate in the fair's low-cost and free health screenings.
This year, for the first time, participants can preregister and prepay online with a Visa or MasterCard for the fair's low-cost screenings. To register online, go to www.9healthfair.org, click on Find a Fair, select Salida, click the Search button, then scroll down the page and click the "You can register online now" link. Online registration is cut off at noon the day before the event.
Participants can also preregister and prepay on April 10 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., and April 11 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Masonic Temple, 140 West Third Street, Salida. Preregistration and prepayment (check or cash only) is not required, but will save participants the time required to register on the day of the fair.
Staffed entirely by volunteers and coordinated in Salida by Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, the 9Health Fair offers six basic low-cost screenings. These include blood chemistry ($30), Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA) for men ($25), blood cell count ($15), a take-home colon cancer screening kit ($20), vitamin D screening ($40) and a hemoglobin A1c screening ($25).
To ensure accurate results for the blood chemistry test, a 12-hour fast (no food) is recommended prior to the blood draw. Fasting is not necessary for the other screening tests. Diabetics should not fast. All participants should drink water and take their regular medication.
Participants who registered online will have their results delivered within two weeks to a secure online account. They will need the username and password created during registration to access their results. Their results will not be mailed.
Other participants will receive their test results via mail within about four weeks of the fair. Those with critical or alert health results will receive a phone call within 72 hours of their 9Health Fair visit from a volunteer registered nurse or physician instructing them to seek immediate medical attention and providing follow-up resources.
Attending a 9Health Fair does not replace a regular check-up with your physician, and participants are advised to make an appointment with their primary care provider to interpret test results. For more information about Salida's 9Health Fair, contact Annette Appel at 530-2288.
