Salida, Colorado - The 9Health Fair is coming to Salida on Saturday, April 14, from 6:30 a.m. until noon at Salida High School, 905 D Street, Salida. Anyone 18 and older can participate in the fair's low-cost and free health screenings.
Participants who have preregistered for the fair should enter through the D Street entrance to Larimer Gymnasium. Participants who are not preregistered should enter at the entrance to John Held Auditorium.
Staffed entirely by volunteers and coordinated in Salida by Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center, the 9Health Fair offers six basic low-cost screenings. These include blood chemistry for $30, Prostatic Specific Antigen (PSA) for men for $25, blood cell count for $15, a take-home colon cancer screening kit for $20, vitamin D screening for $40 and a hemoglobin A1c screening for $25.
To ensure accurate results for the blood chemistry test, a 12-hour fast (no food) is recommended prior to the blood draw. Fasting is not necessary for the other screening tests. Diabetics should not fast. All participants should drink water and take their regular medication.
The Fair also offers free screenings, including blood pressure, vision, body mass index, foot (beginning at 8 a.m.), lung function/sleep apnea, oral health, spinal and skin. There are stations where participants can ask a medical question and obtain nutrition information.
Attending a 9Health Fair does not replace a regular check-up with your physician, and participants are advised to make an appointment with their primary care provider to interpret test results.
