Community History
The charming town of Salida was incorporated in 1880 and is known for its pleasant weather, vast recreation, and growing art scene. Salida is located in the Arkansas River Valley, below the Continental Divide. Salida is a small town with a heart of gold.

Recreation
Salida is an outdoor recreational dream. Since six of every seven acres is designated public lands, Salida is the perfect location for hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders, trail runners, rock climbers, boaters, and hunters. In the winter there are designated snowmobile routes and backcountry skiing. Monarch Ski & Snowboard Area is just 18 miles west of town. The Arkansas River is best known for its world-class Brown Trout Fishery, kayaking, and whitewater rafting.

Arts
Salida's arts community has taken root in the city's downtown historic district. Visitors can watch as painters, potters, jewelers, and sculptors work in their studio galleries. The Aspen Concert Series, Alpine Orchestra, and different family-oriented festivals make Salida a statewide tourist destination.
