Cardiology Services EKGs - Electrocardiograms screen abnormal heart rates. EKGs may be used as a baseline measure to monitor changes for general medical purposes or prior to surgery. Cardiac Stress Tests - This is an EKG test done while the patient is walking on a treadmill. A Cardiac Stress Test shows how the heart reacts to increased activity and stress to the heart. Echo Cardiogram - An ultrasound of the heart that evaluates heart valves, blood flow and circulation, and can show enlargement of the heart due to heart attack or smoking. Stress Echos - An ultrasound of the heart done after the patient walks on the treadmill can help determine the source of pain or the cause of shortness of breath. If a patient is unable to exercise, Dobutemine (a drug) is administered which contracts and exercises the heart and allows for the evaluation. Heart Monitors - If a patient is experiencing chest pain, shortness of breath, or "fluttering," a heart monitor can be worn for twenty-four hours or up to a month. The monitor records the heart rate to help determine the cause of the problems.Pulmonary Services Pulmonary (Respiratory) Therapy can help individuals who have temporary or chronic respiratory problems. Our team of therapists can provide a treatment to help you breathe easier. Pulmonary Function Tests - Lung capacity of asthma patients, smokers, and patients with exertional shortness of breath is determined by testing. A Lung Volume Test measures total lung capacity. A Diffusion Test can be added to this test to measure how much oxygen the lungs are absorbing. Routine Nebulizer Treatments - These treatments dilate/open the bronchial tubes for patients with asthma or emphysema. This allows more air into the lungs and improves oxygenation. Croup Tents - Croup Tents are self-contained vaporizers that surround the patient with oxygen and mist. It is used for children with croup or any age patient with bronchitis or pneumonia. Mist Treatments - These are given to patients with pneumonia, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchial hygiene, cystic fibrosis, as well as some patients recovering from surgery. This treatment helps loosen secretions, making it easier for patients to breathe.Electroencephalograph Electroencephalograph (EEG) measures the electrical activity in the brain. It is a diagnostic tool for seizure disorders or epilepsy as well as for headaches. EEGs can also detect brain lesion and tumors.
