HHRMC Employee Benefits

Following is a summary of the benefits currently offered to employees of the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center. Benefit offerings are subject to change at any time...please contact the Human Resources Department for the most recent benefits and eligibility information.

Benefits are not available (with the exception of the Retirement Plan which begins at hire) until the 1st of the month following the 90-day introductory period.

PAID TIME OFF (PTO)

HRRMC grants each employee who is regularly scheduled to work 24 to 40 hours per week Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for such things as vacations, sick days, illness (personal or family), holidays, medical appointments or other personal business.

PTO accrues at the rate of .0879 hours for each hour worked. For an employee working full time, this results in approximately 21 days of PTO per year. There is a limit of 72 hours available during the first year of employment. The accrual rate increases at seven years and fifteen years of employment. PTO accrues on regular hours worked, and the maximum accrual balance is 168 hours. The Human Resources Department will answer any further questions you have regarding PTO, its accrual and use.

ILLNESS BANK

If an eligible employee reaches the maximum accrual of unused PTO time, (168 hours) a portion of this accrual may be transferred into an Illness Bank. This Illness Bank may be used for any employee illness that exceeds three days absence from work. The Illness Bank will have a maximum of 240 hours.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

All full-time and part-time employees are entitled to bereavement benefits. In the event of a death in the employee’s immediate family, time off, with pay, is allowed from the day of death through the day of burial, or three days, whichever is less. In order to be paid for this time, the employee must have been scheduled to work those days.

RETIREMENT PLAN

HRRMC does not participate in the Social Security program, with the exception of the Medicare insurance portion. Instead of FICA taxes paid, HRRMC has established a 401(a) government retirement plan for mandatory contributions from the employee and matched by HRRMC. A 457 plan is also available for elective contributions, with additional matching HRRMC funds. By contributing to these plans rather than to FICA, the employee has more control over his or her retirement investments. The employee is able to direct his or her individual investment decisions within the investment options currently offered under the Plans. Employees are provided an opportunity for comprehensive investment counseling with HRRMC’s investment advisor and broker. Note that this method will likely reduce the Social Security benefit awarded at retirement due to these contributions to a government pension.

The minimum, mandatory contribution that is deducted from an employee's pay is 3.75% of gross wages. All employees participate at this level, beginning with the first pay period of employment. HRRMC matches this mandatory contribution dollar for dollar. This deduction is made prior to federal and state income taxes, thereby reducing the employee’s tax liability. This contribution is made to the 401(a) plan.

Employees may also elect to make an additional, pre-tax contribution to the 457 plan. The employee may elect to contribute up to a total of $16,500 for 2009. This elective contribution is matched by the hospital up to 3.25% of gross wages. Therefore, the HRRMC match on combined mandatory and elective contributions is a maximum of 7.00% of an employee’s gross income.

Employees are always 100% vested in their contributions as well as the matching contributions.

INSURANCE BENEFITS

All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a group insurance program offered at HRRMC. In addition, those part-time employees who are regularly scheduled to work at least twenty-four (24) hours per week or forty-eight (48) hours per pay period are eligible to participate as well, although they will be obligated for a greater share of the medical premium than full-time participants pay.

The employee's portion of the group medical insurance premium will be withheld through payroll deduction, and employees may elect to have these premiums withheld on a pre-tax basis, reducing the employee’s tax liability.

When a participating employee terminates employment at HRRMC coverage ends on the last worked day. She/he may elect to continue participation as specified by, and under the terms of, the COBRA act.
