Billing Price Transparency

Understanding Your Hospital Bill

HRRMC has created a brochure "Understanding Your Hospital Bill" to answer your questions about hospital billing and clarify who may send you a bill and how to contact them. Please click here to download the brochure in English, or here to download the brochure in Spanish.

Patients who have questions about their hospital bill, HRRMC clinic bill or monthly payment plan should call Patient Financial Services at (719) 530-2475.

Convenient Ways To Pay Your Bill

For our patients' convenience, HRRMC bills may be paid online by clicking here. You may also mail in your payment or submit payment at the hospital's front desk.

Price Transparency

In an effort to help you understand your healthcare options and the cost of care, we have put together a list of common outpatient and inpatient services and procedures along with the corresponding charges and billing codes.

At HRRMC, we agree that transparency about the cost of healthcare is important.

The Pricing Estimator Tool will allow you to obtain an out-of-pocket cost estimate for selected services and/or terms, providing additional information regarding average procedure charges and other details.

View the Pricing Estimator Tool here for an estimate on healthcare costs for your treatment(s).

Estimates for Services

HRRMC is happy to provide an estimate for any service or procedure. All estimates are confidential.

In order to provide you with the most accurate estimate, please have the following information from your physician’s office available:

  • Are outpatient or inpatient services scheduled?
  • What is the primary ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases) diagnosis code for the scheduled services?
  • What is the CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) code for the scheduled services?

Please call our Estimate Line at (719) 530-2475 if you need assistance with obtaining an estimate.

Si habla usted en Español, por favor, llamanos at (719) 530-2475.

Please note: The HRRMC Buena Vista Health Center offers a Walk-in Clinic for non-emergent care Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-served basis and pricing is the same as during the clinic’s regular business hours. Payment & Insurance

Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center accepts Medicare, Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid), and most private insurance. Our Patient Financial Services Department is here to work with you on balances due after insurance and/or if you do not currently have insurance. We can set up internal payment plans with reasonable monthly payments depending on your balance.

If possible, we will attempt to handle all interactions with your insurance provider on your behalf, provided that is what you’d prefer. Please be aware that this is not always possible, and the insurance company may require a response from you to address certain issues.

When Your Health-Insurance Carrier Says No

Any time your health-insurance carrier denies benefits for covered services that you and your health care provider feel are medically necessary or have medical evidence proving that the services aren't subject to a contractual exclusion, you have the right to challenge that decision. Click here to learn more.

Financial Assistance

HRRMC will provide financial assistance (charity care) to qualified patients who are uninsured or underinsured and do not have the financial means to pay for hospital services. For more information, click financial assistance policy. Patient Financial Services can also assist with the application process for Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid) and the state CICP program.

For patients with limited or no insurance or high-deductible plans, we offer some affordable options including direct access lab testing and cash-based pricing for MRIs, CT scans, and Rehab services.

Direct Access Testing

Direct Access Testing (DAT) is a service available at the Salida hospital, the Buena Vista Health Center, Saguache Health Center and Custer County Health Center. DAT gives you the option to order lab tests on your own at discounted prices, from a limited DAT menu, without a physician's order.

Your payment for tests is required up front by cash, check or credit card, along with an address and phone number. For more info about Direct Access Lab Testing, click here.

Cash-based Pricing For MRI, CT Scans and Complete Echocardiograms

  • You present a doctor’s order for an MRI, CT scan or echocardiogram.
  • Full payment is due upfront with cash, check or credit card.
  • The cash-based price includes both the hospital charge and radiologist fee.
  • Insurance companies will not be billed so the cash payment does not go toward your insurance deductible.

HRRMC’s cash-based pricing for MRIs (price includes Radiologist's fee):

  • MRI of one body part (one CPT code*) WITHOUT contrast dye: $850
  • MRI of one body part (one CPT code*) WITH contrast dye: $1,300
  • MRI of one body part (one CPT code*) WITH and WITHOUT contrast: $1,800

*CPT codes are medical codes published by the American Medical Association that are used by medical coders to report services.

For additional body parts, multiply the charge for one part accordingly. For example, an MRI WITHOUT contrast dye of the knee and the torso corresponds to an MRI of two body parts (two CPT codes) WITHOUT contrast dye or $850 x 2 = $1,700.

HRRMC’s cash-based pricing for CT scans (price includes Radiologist’s fee):

  • CT scan of one body part (one CPT code*) WITHOUT contrast dye: $750
  • CT scan of one body part (one CPT code*) WITH contrast dye: $1,100
  • CT scan of one body part (one CPT code*) WITH & WITHOUT contrast dye: $1,650

*CPT codes are medical codes published by the American Medical Association that are used by medical coders to report services.

For additional body parts, multiply the charge for one part accordingly. For example, a CT scan WITHOUT contrast dye of the knee and the torso corresponds to a CT scan of two body parts (two CPT codes) WITHOUT contrast dye or $750 x 2 = $1,500.

For more information about cash-based pricing, contact Patient Financial Services at (719) 530-2475.
