"Oh, My Aching Back" Lunch & Learn July 26

About 80 percent of adults experience lower back pain at some point in their lifetimes, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. HRRMC pain management physician James Leek, M.D., will host a lunch & learn on causes and treatments of lower back pain on Tues., July 26, at noon in the hospital's second-floor conference rooms, 1000 Rush Drive, Salida.James Leek

Dr. Leek specializes in treating pain due to injury or illness. He uses several modalities to treat pain including nerve blocks, injections, and radiofrequency ablation, a minimally invasive procedure that uses electrical current to heat small areas of nerve tissue. Dr. Leek also manages pain using physical therapy, massage, exercise, medication and relaxation techniques.

Dr. Leek graduated from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, and completed his residency in anesthesiology with extensive pain management training at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to relocating to the Upper Arkansas Valley, Dr. Leek served at Langlade Hospital in Antigo, Wisconsin, as director of the Department of Anesthesia for three years, then as the director of the Department of Pain Management for 16 years. Most recently, Dr. Leek practiced with Advanced Pain Management in Greenfield, Wisconsin, one of the largest pain management groups in the U.S.

The lunch & learn is free and open to everyone. Community members are welcome to bring a brown-bag lunch. Beverages will be served.
